golf in scotland
For many, a visit to the Scottish Highlands would not be complete without a round on one or more of the championship golf courses within easy reach of the lodge.
Please find below some of the best Golf Courses in the Highland:
Royal Dornoch - Royal Dornoch Golf Club is spellbinding and many golfers from all over the world make the pilgrimage to this natural links at some point in their lives. Ostensibly the course itself is pretty straightforward: it's an out-and-back layout. Many of the greens, though, are built on natural raised plateaus making approach play especially challenging. Most people know about Royal Dornoch and many have this course on their must-play list.
Castle Stuart - Castle Stuart Golf Links is a championship links course overlooking the Moray Firth and well-known landmarks that are synonymous with Inverness and the Black Isle - Kessock Bridge and Chanonry Lighthouse perhaps the most notable. Castle Stuart's goal is to add to the rich fabric of golf in the Scottish Highlands - a fabric made rich by Royal Dornoch, Nairn, Brora, and many other fine Scottish golf clubs.
“effortlessly blends the very best elements of the likes of St Andrews and Pebble Beach, Ballybunion and Royal County Down, but has also added a refreshingly huge dose of playability… Castle Stuart is going Platinum…” Golf World – Richard Green
Nairn West - Nestling on the shores of the Moray Firth this Traditional Scottish Golf Links Course was created from a Highland wilderness of gorse and heather, and tests the talents of professional and amateur alike. Founded in 1887, it is now one of the best courses in Scotland, and has hosted a large number of important championships.
"Nairn is a classic, traditional out-and-back links, and the opening half a dozen holes along the coast rival anything at more illustrious Scottish courses. The putting surfaces are in immaculate condition and the variety of the examination never gets boring. I can't think of anywhere I would rather be on a sleepy summer afternoon." Jock Howard - Golf World. "
